True Player privacy policy
Last updated: 24 October 2026
In short
True Player is a music player for your own Navidrome server and for the music on your phone. There is no account with us, and the app contains no advertising, no analytics and no trackers. We, the maker, receive no data from the app.
To do its work, the app does talk to the server you connect it to and to a few other services. This policy explains which ones, and what they receive.
Who is responsible
True Player is published by Adrian Overdijk under the name Apps With Manners. Questions about this policy can be sent to info@appswithmanners.com.
What the app stores on your phone
- the address of each server you connect to, your username on it, and a login token. Your password itself is not stored: the app keeps only a token derived from it with a random value, as the Subsonic sign-in method prescribes.
- your settings, including the sound settings
- the podcasts you subscribe to, and how far you have listened to episodes
- songs, albums, playlists and podcast episodes you download to listen to offline
- a cache of songs you play, covers, artist information, lyrics and radio station logos, so they do not have to be fetched again
- playlists you make of music on your phone
All of this stays on your phone. The app is left out of Android's automatic backup and device transfer, so it is not copied to a cloud account. In Settings, under Storage, you can see how much space each part takes and clear it.
Your music server
Everything to do with your music library goes between the app and the server you connect it to: signing in, browsing, streaming, favourites, playlists, play counts, the song you are playing now and where you are in it. That server is run by you, or by whoever gave you access to it. We have no access to it.
If your server passes your plays on to Last.fm or ListenBrainz, that is set up on the server, and the policies of those services apply.
If you enter a server address that starts with http:// instead of https://, the connection to that server is not encrypted. Use https:// wherever your server allows it.
The demo server
"Try the demo" connects the app to demo.navidrome.org, the public test server of the Navidrome project. We do not run that server. Every visitor signs in with the same demo account, so what you do there, such as favourites, playlists and what you play, can be seen by other visitors. Do not put anything personal there.
Other services the app contacts
The two services below are optional. Both are off until you allow them: the app asks you the first time it would need one, and nothing is sent before you say yes. You can change your answer at any time in Settings.
- LRCLIB (lrclib.net): when your server has no lyrics for a song, the app can look them up on LRCLIB. It then sends the artist, title, album and length of the song. In Settings: "Look up lyrics online".
- Apple: to find a podcast by name, the app can search Apple's podcast directory (the iTunes Search API). It then sends your search words. Without this, you can still add a podcast by its RSS address. In Settings: "Search podcasts online".
The app also fetches what you choose to listen to from where it comes from:
- Podcast publishers: podcast feeds and episodes are fetched directly from where the podcast publishes them.
- Radio stations: a station's stream comes from the station itself. If the Homepage field of a station is filled in, the app fetches the station's logo from that website. The homepage is not used for anything else.
Like any website you visit, these services see your IP address and what is asked of them. Their own privacy policies apply. The app sends them no name, no account and no device identifier.
Music on your phone
If you give permission to read music and audio, the app reads the music files on your phone to play them. These files and the information in them are not sent anywhere.
Permissions
- Internet and network state: to reach your server and the services above, and to know whether you are on Wi-Fi or mobile data.
- Music and audio: to play the music on your phone. Only asked when you use it.
- Notifications: for the playback controls and the progress of downloads.
- Running in the background: so music keeps playing when the screen is off, and downloads you started can finish.
What the app does not do
- It contains no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no trackers.
- It does not sell or share data. We receive no data from the app, so there is nothing with us to share.
Deleting your data
"Sign out" in Settings removes a server and your login for it. Downloads and everything in the cache can be removed in Settings, under Storage. Removing the app from your phone removes everything it stored. Your library, playlists and play history on your server are managed on the server itself.
This website
This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers, and loads nothing from other websites. The site is hosted by Cloudflare. As with any website, the hosting provider processes technical data to show the page, such as your IP address. We do not look at or keep that data ourselves.
If you send us an email, we use your email address and your message only to answer you and, if it is feedback, to improve the app.
Children
True Player is not aimed at children. Podcasts and radio stations can contain content meant for adults.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new date.
